Speaking of bullshit non-technology dot-coms (and no, I'm not suggesting that all non-technology Internet companies are B.S.), the newest spate of posters to be plastered about SOMA are far XMarkstheSpot.com, "the spot that pays you to sign up for web sites!" Ugh. Oh, and guess what? They even have a spam generator: "Make extra cash when your friends register with XMarkstheSpot." Double-ugh. The fact that someone thought, out of all the things to be done in this world, this was a good enough idea to spend time on -- let alone fund -- amazes me. The fact that other web companies will actually pay for users generated through this method amazes me even more (until, of course, I remember that it's all about generating numbers that no one ever verifies and that each of those so-called "users" will be worth multiples of what they're being bought for when the paying company turns around gets bought out. Oh wait, the whole thing is starting to make sense...)
