I downloaded the new IE and Smart Tags to get a first-hand feel for what the hoopla was all about. My first impression is that I'll leave them turned off by default, just as I do spell- and grammar-checking in Word, because all those squiggly lines are annoying. I realize I may not be exhibiting average user behavior. Trying to think like the average user, it's hard to tell at this point how intriguing the feature is, because the only words they seem to have in the recognizer are the names of major corporations. And it's not often I'm wondering where those companies' web sites or stock prices are at, so the utility factor is low. Time will tell...
