How many hours it takes to upgrade from NT 4 to Windows 2000 Advanced Server: Less than one. How many (painful) hours it takes to recover your system after (stupidly) disabling the video driver in Windows 2000: Four and a half (and counting). Ugh. That's where this site went for most of last night, in case you were wondering (and this site, and this site, and...).
To be fair, I think there was something goofy with my system preventing it from booting to the Win2k CD and letting me go into repair mode, but why safe mode couldn't recover from this slip of the mouse, I don't know. I ended up having to reinstall NT 4, which first required a reformat (it couldn't now read the drive for some strange reason), and then reinstalling Win2k (and all other programs) from scratch. Man-o-man, I don't like sysadmin stuff.
