The much-touted TrellixWeb (the web-based version of Dan Bricklin's Trellix software) is now available on Tripod (dubbed "Tripod Site Builder"). Looking at it, I was pleasantly surprised to find "weblog" among their list of pre-built site templates. And they describe a weblog as, "...an online journal. It's a place for me to share news, views, experiences, photos...whatever occurs to me. You'll find my opinions on a variety of topics as well as links to other things on the web that I find interesting," which is much better -- and more accurate -- than the prevelant definition of weblogs being just link lists. As for actually using TrellixWeb to publish a weblog, since their doesn't seem to be any way to make a post that contains both a link and text that's not a link...well, it seems difficult -- not to mention that it's page-based, as opposed to post-based in general. But I didn't play with it much. I'll leave the reviews to someone less biased. However, as Dan and I have discussed, we appeal to completely different markets, and so don't really compete. In general, I'm rather impressed with the tool. There's a lot of functionality in a package that seems like it would be fairly intuitive to absolute beginners. Hopefully, it will get more people doing more stuff on the web, which is a good thing.
