FreeIM.org sports a petition to the chairmen of the FCC & FTC to try and get AOL to open up its instant messaging services. I'm all for open access and think it'd be good for the Internet if AOL did this, but isn't this what free markets are for? If their are enough people to petition the FTC into bullying AOL to change how they offer their product, shouldn't there be enough people to force AOL to do this by voting with their attention and choosing some other provider? Sheesh.
