P2P: I don't get this AppleSoup plan. Supposedly, they're going to take the concept of Napster and incorporate payment schemes so people can do legitimate copying. But then what is the point of the peer-to-peer thing? If I'm going to pay for content, I want to download it from a server with a high speed connection -- not from some random person's PC, who might go offline at any moment. And if the copyright holders are in the loop about this, than why not just put the conent on reliable servers? Isn't the only reason for Napster so, unlike putting pirated files on public web servers, people can't get caught?
This is not to say I'm not down with the peer-to-peer idea. I've always liked the every client a server notion. But where it's interesting is in exchanging personal (or work-related) files and other content and incorporating it with web apps -- not stuff that's for public consumption. In fact, we've thought a lot about how to build a distributed client-based server aspect into the Pyra (the tool) architecture. Unfortunately, we're not working on that now.
