CNET: "Palm and Claudia Schiffer today launched the Palm Vx Claudia Schiffer Edition. The handheld computer resembles a typical Palm V but sports a blue brushed-metal case instead of the regular silver color. Starting this fall, Schiffer will sell the device exclusively through her Web site. The model and aspiring actress is 'personally selecting her favorite add-on software applications to include on a CD that customers can use to install the programs,' Palm said in a statement." Hear that sound? It's the sound of the approaching THUD that this is going to make in the marketplace. Celebrity endorsements are useful for two things: getting attention and lending credibility. Perhaps Claudia Schiffer will get attention for Palm among a different audience than they are currently well-known in. But she sure as heck doesn't lend credibility to a technology product. In fact, I'd say she undermines it. She may know her shit and really be into it, but it completely works against her "brand" and image.
