Are we done or not? Interactive Week reports, that About.com recently launched an AmIHotOrNot clone, called RankPeople.com. How can they do this with a straight face? The money helps, I guess: "'We're very excited about [RankPeople.com],' said About.com spokeswoman Tabatha Sturm. 'We're selling a lot of ads for it, and it generates a lot of traffic.'" Hmm... so that's what they mean when they say...
Oy, I fear they've lost their way. On the other hand, RankPeople does have a few interesting features AmIHotOrNot doesn't -- such as the ability to send messages to the people in the pictures. And, under the "Track this Picture" button, you can get a JavaScript include to put a thumbnail of the picture, along with the current rank and a link (and an ad) on your site. It just seems odd that About.com -- a public company that ranks among the top networks on the web -- is actually doing this development within the scope of their business. Seems like a prank gone overboard. But I guess it's what the people want?
