Browsing through some of my New York pictures, I was struck, even after watching them on TV all day, by how damn big the WTC towers were—even by NYC standards. Because of the zoomed-in or odd-angled perspectives most of the pictures and videos today have been from, many non-New Yorkers may not have a feel for how prominent these buildings were. Here is a picture I took from atop the Empire State Building a year ago. It could have been a day ago. Now they're gone. Astonishing.
