Here's another way if, like me, you use Gmail: Replace your bookmark with this:
Although, with Gmail's javascripty-framey voodoo, I'm not sure which connection your data is actually coming through, so it's possible it's not (or already was) SSLed. But I think the browser would tell you if one of the frames wasn't secure when you have the https in the address bar. Someone will probably correct me if I'm wrong.

https://gmail.google.com/gmailBy default, Gmail encrypts your login, but not your every page load. However, if you add the SSL-signifying s to the http, it'll keep it there.
