Redherring.com: "[comScore], whose clients are online merchants, secretly tracks consumers' behavior on the Internet, recording such data as sites visited, pages viewed, products bought, and ads clicked." According to Red Herring, comScore just landed $13.4 mil in VC money.

Lovely. Let's see what their site says: "comScore specializes in monitoring and reporting consumer behavior on the internet... comScore has a unique database that captures the complete online behavior of thousands of members across all internet sites. This includes: Web surfing activity; Online purchases including product, merchant, price, and amount; Response to marketing stimuli such as banner ads or marketing e-mails." Notice, they say "members," so it's hard to tell if it's as "secret" as Red Herring reports (which is a little hard to believe -- merchants would have to be very ignorant not to know...oh nevermind), but nonetheless, isn't it great they just landed lots of money?
