NY Times: Growing Audience Is Turning to Established News Media Online: "'National sites will get more and more of a share of the news audience and the smaller sites will get less and less,' predicted Vin Crosbie, president of the consulting firm Digital Deliverance....As the online news audience grows, a bigger share of the market is going to news Web sites that were already at the top of the pile." Strange. Is this really the case? Isn't this contrary to the trends in other types of media for the last several decades? If you look at television or magazines, a proliferation of channels/titles has created an increasingly fractoinalized market, as people tune into the things most interesting to them. Why would the most fractionalized and democratic of all mediums follow the opposite trend? Stronger network effects? I don't know.
